interview with Lord Spirit, all instruments,music for Blade Of Death. done by Patrick
1.hello my friend how is your week starting out? please tell the readers a little about yourself.

Hi Patrick! I want to do Bathory cover this week, to tribute to Quorthon. "13 Candles" will be this song. What can I tell about myself? I hate most of people, hate fun, hate life... I hate most of things in this disgusting "world". I love to watch humans torments, humans sorrow... All they must suffer and then die, slowly and very painful...

2.at what age did you become interested in playing and writing music?what was the first instrument you learned to play?

I become interested to playing and writing music when i was 10. I wanted to play on bass guitar. But my first instrument was piano when I was 8. My family wanted to teach me to play on piano, and I really hated it.

3.when did you form your main band, Blade Of Death? for the readers who have never heard Blade Of Death how would you describe the music?

I formed Blade Of Death in the middle of March 2009. But I wanted to do it in the end of 2008. Blade Of Death sound is not typical black metal, or dark ambient, or noise, or drone, etc... Blade Of Death sounds like eternal torments of my dead soul... My negative and morbid emotions, my endless sorrow, depression, despair, hatred to all in this "world" and its "god"... Maybe, it sounds like my slowly becoming insane.

4.please tell the readers a little about each of your releases. if anyone is interested where can the fans buy your releases?

All my albums, demos, etc was written in deep depression. It is result of my self-destruction. I wrote at least 20 demos, but they never be released, because thay are not for all.

My released albums:

BLADE OF DEATH:
In Secula Seculorum (single, 2009, Desolation Prod.)
Remains Of Eternity (LP, 2009, Desolation Prod., limited to 33 copies)
Promo (2010, Desolation Prod.)
Eternal Darkness (LP, 2010, Pure Black Heart Productions, limited to 66 copies)
From The Freezing Veins Of Night... (LP, 2010, Salute Records, limited to 66 copies) - COMING SOON!
Depression, Desolation, Despair... Kill Yourself (LP, 2010, Salute Records, limited to 100 copies) - COMING SOON!

HUMANDEATH:
Iced Shore (LP, 2009, Desolation Prod., limited to 66 copies)
Inquisition Symphony (LP, 2009, Desolation Prod., limited to 66 copies)

HOLOCAUST:
The Call Of Death (EP, 2010, Desolation Prod.)

You can buy it on the websites of these labels.

5.you are the sole-member of the band when you started Blade Of Death, did you plan to work alone?

Yes, I planned to work alone because I want to do my own music, I love to record what I can and what I want.

6.what do you feel are the advantages and disadvantages to working alone? if you had the chance to work with any musicians past or present.who are some you would like to play/write with?

You want to write music and you do it. I don't want to do something with most of people (of course, if it is don't mean "to make them suffer") because we think about different things. There is one big disadvantage that I play alone: I want to give concerts, but I can’t. I have the chance to go to the tour in Brazil, and I really want it, but I can’t. I live in very small town when only I love such music. If I can to work with other musicians, I want to play with Vordb Dreagvor Uezreebv, Aakon Keetreh, Meyhna'ch... (Yes, i'm Les Legions Noires fan, i dedicate Blade Of Death album "Depression, Desolation, Despair... Kill Yourself" to LLN). Also I want to play with Quorthon, Dead... With Malefic.

7.as mentioned earlier you write all the songs/music for your projects. when you begin on a new song how long does it usually take to complete?

Sometimes I can do two songs for one night... Sometimes I write one song for two weeks.

8.you play all the instruments yourself. i was wondering which was the easiest for you to learn how to play? which was the hardest?

It is hard to me to play (and to learn too) on all instruments, because I have some problems with my left hand, I can play on guitar just like Lord Lokhraed, I can use two of my fingers, I can't use 4 fingers like other "normal people".

9.i know besides Blade Of Death you also play in some other bands/projects. please tell us a little about each of these bands.how would you say they are different from Blade Of Death.

Some time ago I played in Vermyapre (Raw Black Metal/Ambient), but now this 2-man project is closed because some people (as you know, now I tell about other member) can't do their work and prefer to use drugs than to write music. Also I play in Humandeath (Dark Ritual Ambient), Holocaust (Dark Ambient/Noise), Vermyapre (Raw Black Metal/Ambient), Naamah (Drone Doom/Minimalistic Dark Ambient), Mutilated Spirit (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal), Winter Despair (Raw/Depressive Suicidal Black Metal), I’m the session musician in Desolation... Some bands and projects are really underground and their albums or demos never will be released... Soon Kei (from Desolation) and I will create new project...

10.you come out of the great country of russia. it seems to me that russia has a good metal/ scene.would you agree? what is your opinion of russia's metal scene?

I hate this country and don't want to hear about this place!!! I hope that I will live in France! And I hate most of Russian music too, I can't listen this shit!

11.who are some of your all-time favorite russian bands? are their any new bands you think the readers should watch out for?

I haven't favorite Russian band... Also I hate Russian language. I listen mostly French and Iranian Black Metal.

12.are their any good/honest web/fanzines or labels/distros the readers should check out?

I said what I think about this.

13.everyone has their own ideas/opinion on what black metal means and stands for.so in your opinion what does "black metal" mean to you?

Black Metal is my religion, my way of life, my favorite music, etc. Black Metal is all for me. I can die for Black Metal. Black Metal is very serious thing.

14.well my friend we have reached the end of the interview. thank you for taking the time to fill out this interview. do you have any final comments for the readers?

I want to tell one thing: soon you all will know about me, but I will play only my own music, only what I want. All My life.

Interview with Angier guitars, programming for spectre, co-owner of GraveLord prod. Done by Patrick.

1. Metal hails Angier!! How is your week starting out? Please tell the readers a little about yourself.
Its fine thanks, this holiday’s been ok and no I’m going back to college and I’ll be writing some new material for the next releases. I’m pretty much a black metal Geordie, the guitarist and founder of Spectre, I’m also the co-owner of Gravelord Productions and if you met me you wouldn’t expect me to be who I am.

2. When did you all form spectre? How did you come up with band name? Does it have a special meaning? What is the "current" line-up? For readers who have never heard the band how would you describe the band’s music?
Spectre was originally just my solo project that I started in 2009. "Spectre" was just a simple moniker that just stuck as time went on, and I doubt it ever will change. I contacted Nekromaniac after listening to his music over the internet and we got together and shared some ideas about our music and he then started to write the lyrics to the “Abyss” demo. It’s only recently we have a bassist and drummer. The bassist is a good friend of mine and we have two drummers at this moment in time, ANTI from "Intra Tenebrae" who is doing drums on the upcoming EP and another friend of mine who is going to be doing live drums.
The music itself is just very atmospheric and raw Black Metal; it is what is and nothing else.

3. The band recently releases the debut demo through GraveLord prod. How long did it take you all to write and record the songs for this release?
The whole demo took about 6 months to finish, I had recorded most of the tracks in the first few months and then we had huge problems with computers losing data etc. So after a few more recordings the originals were found so we scrapped the rest and released the original material.

4. Are you and the rest of the band happy with how it turned out? How has the response been from the fans and press?
Yeah, at the time it was just me and Nekromaniac so we were pretty pleased that we'd accomplished that first step for Spectre. As for the response, from what I’ve seen it’s gone down really well but I haven’t gotten much feedback, it’s mainly been from those such as yourself.
Well we're all over BlogSpot downloading sites; there isn’t more fame than that is there?

5. When the band begins work on a new song how long does it usually take to complete a song? Does whole band work on the music or does 1-2 members handle it all?
I write the majority of the songs and Nekromaniac the lyrics, but there are a couple of songs that we’re working on that he’s been writing. Our bassist and drummer just play whatever we write with their techniques and style applied to that. There are going to be some changes in this area in the future though so we’ll have to see how that turns out.

6. Who usually handles the lyrics for the band? What are some topics/subjects the band writes about?
Nekromaniac handles the lyrics though in coming releases I want to take a more active role in this area of the music so it becomes more of a collaboration of the members rather than just one persons work.
The lyrics that are written cover basically everything that you’ll encounter lyrically in black metal. The hardships of life and the mind.

7. I believe you told me a few weeks ago the band is currently writing songs for the next spectre release. How are things coming with the new material? How many songs do you all plan to write/record for the new release?
How would you say the music is different than that from your debut "abyss"? Do you all have a release date set? For this release?
I'd say it's quite a different step for Spectre, definitely a new sound as we have real drums and a bassist now. More of an experiment than anything, the full length will be where our music will really be refined. The main track of the EP is a bit longer than all my previous songs but that’s a good thing, especially in this style of music as it allows you to build up a greater atmosphere.
The EP will have 2/3 tracks It depends on how I feel about a third track.

8. Does the band get to play live very often or do you prefer to be a studio-only band? Who are some bands you
Have played with? If you could set-up a "dream" show/tour who are some bands you would love to play with?
Wodensthrone and Bong would be local choices as they are both really good bands from the Newcastle/Sunderland areas. I would also choose Woods of Desolation and Wolves in the Throne Room as I love the sound they both have and the atmosphere of their songs.

9. The band comes out of England’s black/dark metal underground. What is your opinion of the scene in your country? It seems to me the u.k has a growing, strong scene would you agree?
Definitely, there are some really great bands from here, you’ve just got to be arsed to look!
There’s great bands from every corner of the UK, Cnoc an Tursa and Vostok from Scotland, White Medal, Fen, Caina, Immortal Empire and Saul from England and Ghats and Dear from Wales.
There’s so much more, I just can’t write it all down haha

10. Who are some of your all-time favourite bands from the u.k? Are there any new bands you think the readers should watch out for?
Well there are several side projects or Nekromaniac's that are also on our label, Diabolus Ritus which features Razakel Krieg from Baalberith. Funeral Path and Hremmgiefstol. I would also recommend Blooddawn, Vintage Flesh and Cobwebs of Deception.

11. besides bands are there any honest labels/distro or fan/web-zines the readers should check out?
Thorn Laceration records is one of the best UK labels I've ever come across. The owners a really great guy and the releases he has planned are pretty damn amazing, you should really look him up.

12. I think I got a little ahead of myself with this last question. For those who do not know you also run/co-own GraveLord prod. When did you all decide to start up this label? Who else helps you with this label?
Gravelord Productions was Nekromaniac's idea at first; I just helped him to get the idea off the ground and into something real. It's just me and Nekromaniac at the minute and we like it that way so I doubt that'll ever really change.

13. Is GraveLord prod. Strictly for spectre releases and merch or would you like to work with other bands as well?
No, Gravelord Productions is open to anything, Black, Doom, punk even. Any music that we enjoy or bands that we wish to promote within the underground.
Spectre will very likely be removed from the roster and hopefully signed to another label as I would like to reserve the label for other bands releases rather than my own. So if there’s any labels interested get in touch!

14. If any bands or labels are reading this what styles of music do you release or distribute?
Like I say anything that we can personally enjoy.
Send us anything!

15. Everyone has their own idea what black metal means/stands for. So I was curious in your opinion what does Black metal mean to you?
To me black metal is the escape from reality, the freedom to do what you want and how you want, no boundaries or limits.

16. Well my friend we have reached the end of the interview. Thank you for taking the time to fill this out. Do you have any final comments for the readers?
Yes, Thanks for reading and keep an eye on our upcoming releases as we’ve got a very special boxed set of splits coming out early next year and the Spectre EP too!

Regards, Angier

abwehrschlacht-kaiser schlacht advanced promo {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
abwehrschlacht are a new 2-man band coming from the ever-growing u.k black metal scene.the duo are heavily influenced by early days of primitive and somewhat harsh black metal,thrash and even the more violent brutal sounds from the war metal genre.the guitars are as mentioned played fast and thrashing which gives the band a classic black/thrash sound from the early 80's.harsh,scratchy vocals of war scream out the orders for attack while the band blasts the listener with blasting drums only to slow to a mid-paced range but then speed back up again. this is a band and release that fans of old-school black/thrash and intense war metal will not want to miss out on!! {special note:i read on the bands site it is planning to release "kaiser schlacht" in the next month or so on cassete form so if interested check the bands site for more info.}

blooddawn-black hymns from the house of god cd {panzerfaust prod.}{reviewed by patrick}
damn time flys when u get to be an old bastard like myself. blooddawn has released it's 5th cd release "black hymns from the house of god" .bloodawn have defintly outdone themselves once again by releasing their most mature and also blapshemous,unrelenting release to date.8 songs of intense pure no holds barred black metal.the production and sound seems to be done a little better on this release then on the bands previous few releases that i have heard.which is good because you can hear every thunderous drum beat and the guitars and bass have a thicker sound but still maintain the classic razor-sharp guitar sound and feel.donn {of the mighty teutoburg forest} returns to the vocal and lyric duty.donn's vocals are equally up to par with the rest of bands impressive showing.with his dark gruff growl and demonic blasphemous screechs.if you are a fan of blooddawn's past releases then defintly don't hesitate to buy this release today!! if you are someone who was not that impressed with their previous releases give this one a listen.you might be pleasantly surprised.

brigantia-the chronic argonants mcd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
well i am gonna take a break from the more violent side of metal and shine some light some quality Doom!! this is a band i have heard about alot through myspace and various friends.well finally thanks to the band i can now put a sound to the name.this is brigantia's new 3 song e.p the music is traditonal,heavy memorable doom.it is hard to be totally original when writing/playing traditional doom {actually that could be said for ANY genre today} but brigiantia are able to pull it off rather nicely you hear some st.vitus influence in the songs but overall brigantia have crafted a rather original release while keeping true to the traditional old-school doom sound of the elder gods.guitars are slow,heavy thunderous riff one after another but their are moments of mid-paced catchy guitar riffs.the third song "eyes of lugosi" is defintly a stand out track for me and singer/guitarist dave has some of the best doom vocals i have ever heard sund on this song.overall brigantia is a doom band not to be missed!!

elimi-asylum cd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
elimi come out of the legendary swedish black metal scene.and have brought a very impressive 6 song release asylum with them.the band seems to draw influence from both the early days of swedish black metal and more modern black metal.the guitars are a little thicker and heavier sounding then most black metal bands but still played extremly well and has some interesting guitar chords and riffs.the drummer keeps up with the mid-tempo charge of the band with some moments of aggressive blast beating but mainly stay within the mid-tempo range.overall elimi are a good band with alot of potential and recomended to fans who enjoy quality european black metal.

rest eternal-rest eternal demo cd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
this is proably one of the most original and impressive debuts to be released in a long time.the band describes their sound as "crypt metal" which is precisely what it is! a dark mix of somber,atmospheric doom,with a haunting black metal feel and presence throughout the songs.the main thing that will seperate rest eternal from most{if not all} the bands in the current scene is the band does not use or play any electric gutiars or synths to create the dark music that is rest eternal.instead relying more on piano,violin,acoustic and classical guitars among others.rest eternal is highly recomended to fans who enjoy dark,atmospheric blackend doom metal.

thy legion-venerato diaboli cd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
i have only heard a few bands from malta's underground metal scene so i was excited when i recieved this cd.thy legion play brutal blackend death metal.thy legion remind me alot of the early 90's brutal black/death bands of the past with their aggressive,straight-forward approach when the music was more on keeping the metal brutal and not so worried about all the elements to make it atmospheric or over-produced.the guitars are thick with some powerful riffs and solo's,the drums are played with alot of skill and ability and usually attack with hyper-speed blasting attacks.the vocals are just as brutal as the music with demonic growls,and disturbing,insane shrieks.this is another band i would highly recomend but for the fans straight-forward brutal black/death metal fans.

undivine essence/nature's elements-split cd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
this is a split cd of two of israel's newest and more underrated dark,black metal bands. undivine essence start things off with "crimson sky" which is over 10 minutes long but the band has enough musical changes it keeps the listener's attention.starting off with a somber guitar riff and mid-paced drums then picks up a little more speed while keeping it to a minum.their are some slower times when the band has sort of a depressive black and maybe even a slight black/doomish feel to this song.the guitarist is not afraid to mix in some solo's and different styled riffs within the dark atmosphere of the song.the second track "newshape" is almost a complete opposite to the opening song with a much more grim and primitive both the guitars and drums are more aggressive and faster on this track but still played extremly well.the vocals have a mix of a deeper growl/gruff vocal to the more screechy black metal vocals that fit well with this style of metal. undivine essence have defintly gotten my attention with these 2 songs i am looking forward to hearing more from them as it will be interesting to see and hear what they release next. up next is "nature's elements" starting off with a intro which is very pagan/folkish sounding which is not bad at all but kind of misleads the listener cause the second track "l.p.o.s" is raw old-school black metal all the way in both their production and sound quality.not a bad band at all but needs some more work in future releases. this is defintly a good split cd and worth your money if you enjoy dark,depressive black metal and minimalist,primitve black metal.

wunjo-eye of the wolf demo cd {self-released}{reviewed by patrick}
wunjo are a new pagan,black metal band from the mighty italian scene.wunjo are a 2 man band and draw influence from both the early 90's euro black metal sound but also add in some well played folk instruments and sounds to the songs.the band keeps it in the mid-paced range but the band surprise the listener with outburst of fast and furious black metal attacks.the vocals are shared and are a mix of deeper growling and raw scratchy vocals.the production is perfect for this style of metal and not too raw/harsh but it is also not over-produced and too clean sounding. so if you are a fan of pagan black metal with some folk influences then this is a band you will love to hear!!!

agael-hybris cd {naturmacht prod.}{reviewed by patrick}
damn this is one of the most impressive "debuts"i've heard in a long time.germany's agael start things off with a dark haunting ambient piece.the music agael{vocals,all instruments} creates is hard to put into one specific genre as he uses alot of dark,haunting ambient pieces but also has some expiremental sounds and music but this is not all a beautiful expiremental band as agael is not afraid to use some razor-sharp black metal guitars,and mid-pace drumming and when the vocals are used in the songs they are well sung black metal shrieks that fit both the dark expiremental and more aggressive black metal side of agael.agael are a project defying both musical genres and boundries.highly recomended to fans of dark ambient/black metal.

beliar are a new band set to take the german black metal scene to a whole new level with this release.beliar sound seems to be rooted in the more "primitive"old-school black metal style. but the band also has a certain element of "depressive"black metal which shines through on the track "the melancholic night of rising shadows"the music to this track has a darker atmosphere than some of the other tracks.thanks to naturmacht prod. for introducing me to another fine masterpiece of darkness.

black faith-jubilate diabolo cd {reviewed by grave!}
Without doubt Black Metal as we know it today has changed dramatically over the years. Black Faith hailing from Italy has managed to keep the raw old school feel and sound of early Black Metal. 2010’s album entitled “Jubilate Diabolo” captures true essence of the primal facile riff-age and classic blast beats that this intriguing genre constrains, not to mention the pure art that withholds this essential release. Surely enough Black Faith keeps this entire album very enthralling. As you listen thoroughly you’ll decipher the greatness that it embodies. One specific track that caught my attention was the track titled after the album itself “Jubilate Diabolo” With it’s aggressiveness yet harmonious transcendence it definitely engenders the absolute greatness they were trying to accomplish. Vocals are very raw and infuriated, the entire band contrives the pureness of the blackest arts. Black Faith also covers a Darkthrone track entitled “Under a Funeral Moon” – One of my personal favorites. Both guitars are right on track with the original song, so are the vocals. Many bands attempt to cover certain old school Black Metal classics and fail which isnt in any manner the case in this album. I’m almost positive Fenriz would be content with this cover. To conclude, It is significant to listen to “Jubilate Diabolo” and all other songs/albums by Black Faith, completely worth it. It is not afflicting nor false as the many Black Metal acts we see now days. Keep Black Metal alive!

blaze of sorrow-L"ultimo respiro cd {naturmacht prod}{reviewed by patrick}
in just a short time since it's creation robert and naturmacht prod.have released some quality bands.well italy's blaze of sorrow can be added to this ever-growing list."L" ultimo respiro is 6 tracks of mid-paced black metal with some folk and acoustic guitar elements mixed into the sound to keep the listener interested.the vocals are a little more deeper than the average-black metal screamer but still maintain a dark demonic tone that fit well with peter's{all instruments,vocals} musical writing and approach.
this is a really good debut of blackend folk metal fans of this genre should defintly give blaze of sorrow a listen!!

denouncement pyre-world cremation cd {hells headbangers records}{reviewed by patrick}
finally the day has come! australia's denouncement pyre's "debut" full-length is released!! after several demo's and e.p's.the band unleahses it best and most impressive work to date.this band truly embodies all the great elements of old-school blackend death metal the raw power and straight forward approach of black metal,mixed with the heavier guitars and pounding drums of early death metal gods.denouncement pyre do not seem concerned with playing the style that is the flavor of the week. instead the band concentrates on what they know and what runs through their veins and that is true,pure old-school blackend death metal. all fans of old-school metal will not want to miss out on these australian madmen!

drunken bastards-horns of the wasted cd {hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
i like this band sound and approach to extreme music alot! the band mixes in elements from both early 80's punk rock and 80's speed/thrash,black metal to create a very original and chaotic sound.the bands starts off with a intro and then kicks it into full-gear with extremly fast,yet catchy guitars and some solo's mixed in and the drums are just as chaotic blasts but the drummer also shows alot of talent with some well-crafted drum parts and mixes in perfectly with the bands insanity.the vocals are mainly gruff growls but also some higer screams are used in a few parts. this should appeal to both the old-school metal-heads and the old-school punks as drunken bastards mix both styles together nicely.

inquisition-into the infernal regions of the ancient cult cd {hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
inquisition are a band you will totally fall in love with or you will hate with every fiber of your being i don't think their will be much inbetween.the music is in the vein of early/mid 90's european black metal and is not horrible but i have beard much better and the vocals are annoying and don't really fit the music. i personally would say pass on this band as h.h.r have alot more great bands worth checking out.

kozeljnik-deeper the fall cd {paragon records}{reviewed by patrick}
new york's paragon records have struck gold again! very few labels seem to be able to sign and release quality release one after the other but paragon has done it with the last 4-6 releases.this time they released serbia's kozeljnik.the duo have crafted a very dark journey of mid-paced black metal with some outbursts of insane,blasting drums and razor-sharp guitar chords.the band never really lets completly loose with the violent black metal side instead opting to use it more as a mood-breaker from the dark mid-paced songs.the vocals remind me alot of mid-era immortal,with the raspy,gruff vocal patterns.their is also some more deeper,clearly chanted vocal pattern used throughout the songs and is placed very well.the drums seem to stick out most of all for me. going from the hyper-speed intensity of early european black metal to a more controlled and mid-paced beat with some well executed solo's. kozeljnik is band that fans of old immortal,or quality black,dark metal can appreciate and listen to countless times.

maniac butcher-masakr cd {negative existence}{reviewed by patrick}
the deranged psycho's of the legendary maniac butcher return once again!! after a long 10 yrs. of silence with maskr. well does maskr hold up to past maniac butcher classics of the past? in a word yes! maskr is 6 songs of pure hate and agrression done only as these czech hate-mongers can do.raw,whirlwind and scratchy guitars flow over a pounding barrage of blasting drums.the vocals are pure evil shrieks and screams of black metal insanity and fit nicely with the bands ugly,raw sound. long time fans of maniac butcher should not be disapointed at all. and if you are new to this band and enjoy raw,ugly violent black metal done the old-school way this is a good way to introduce yourself to this legendary czech band.

profantica-disgusting blasphemies against god cd {hells headbangers records}{reviewed by patrick}
profantica are a legendary name within the raw,ugly and barbaric black metal u.s.b.m scene.and after listening to to disgusting blasphemies against god i can hear why the band holds the crown.heavy bass,guitar chords and heavier pounding drums the vocals are a mix of gruff old-school styled vocals and demonic growls,and shrieks.i can't help but detect some early autopsy and incantation in the sound to give it a "classic" death metal feel while not taking anything away from the bands black metal roots..fans of primitive,barbaric black metal will love profanatica!!

prosanctus inferi--pandemonic ululations of vesperic palpitations cd{hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
this is probably one of my favorite bands off of the hhr.roster.this is prosanctus inferi's debut cd and listening to the musicanship displayed on here that is hard to believe.the band embodies all i love about metal in the first place.fast,whirlwind guitars and some amazing guitar structures and solo's brutal blasting storms of insanity.the vocals are gruff growls but a little lost in the mix as music is a little louder and more up front than the vocals {not sure if this was intentional or a mix-up in the final mixing of cd} but either way a very small problem as the music is what is really impressive here.it is hard to put prosanctus inferi into one specific genre of metal as their are elements of brutal death,black metal and a strong thrash feel to some of the guitars chords.this is a band not to be missed by fans of old-school brutal black/death metal. i forsee this band being huge within the old-school brutal black/death scene someday.

sorgeldom-inner recievings cd {nordvis rec}{reviewed by patrick}
sorgeldom is a fairly new band from the mighty swedish underground scene. but before you write this band off as just another "swedish clone"band" take the time to fully listen to inner recievings.the band has quite a varied sound and approach to black metal.starting off with an aggressive blackend thrash attack the band's music slowly calms down to a much darker,melodic turn with the 3rd track "vintern war hord"a instruemental piece combing both melodic/harsh guitars and someexpiremental/ambient flow together nicely. their are also some acoustic guitars used in some of later songs and the vocals are just as diverse with harsh black metal screams and some well-done clean male vocal lines.sorgeldom have created one of 2010'smostoriginal,diverseblack,expirementalreleases.

streben-wild enchanted gardens cd {naturmacht prod.}
ahh this is a release i have been waiting to hear! and that of course is italy's streben's wild enchanted gardens.i have been a "fan" of this bands amazing work ever since i heard their "debut" demo "of melancholic elegies and wanderlust".the music has not really changed to drasticly but main-songwriter,vocalist,lyricist cristina has done an amazing job combing both extreme straight forward black metal and beautiful,melodic atmospheres into one original and well written metal masterpiece.streben does use some acoustic guitars this time around not heard on the bands debut demo and fit very well in streben's sound.cristina has some of the most wicked and harshest black metal vocals ever recorded their is also some spoken-word lines. overall streben is{was} a great band and should not missed Highly recomended to all!! {special note: sadly a few months after this release streben called it quits,lets hope cristina does not stay silent to long as she has some amazing song-writing abilities.

the royal arch blaspheme-self-titled cd {hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
from the deepest and darkest realms of the u.s black metal scene is the royal arche blaspheme.the band featurs N.imperial of the legendary krieg and profanatica's main-song writer J.gelsothe music is pure-raw old-school black metal but instead of the crazy chaotic sound you might expect the band keep it in the more mid-paced and heavy guitar/bass sound.the band's main influence is early 90's european black metal but also has a hint of early death metal in some of the guitar tones and feel. not the most original band in the world but still a good band worth checking out if you like raw,primitive black metal

agael-hybris cd {naturmacht prod.}{reviewed by patrick}
damn this is one of the most impressive "debuts"i've heard in a long time.germany's agael start things off with a dark haunting ambient piece.the music agael{vocals,all instruments} creates is hard to put into one specific genre as he uses alot of dark,haunting ambient pieces but also has some expiremental sounds and music but this is not all a beautiful expiremental band as agael is not afraid to use some razor-sharp black metal guitars,and mid-pace drumming and when the vocals are used in the songs they are well sung black metal shrieks that fit both the dark expiremental and more aggressive black metal side of agael.agael are a project defying both musical genres and boundries.highly recomended to fans of dark ambient/black metal.

beliar-...far beyond cd {naturmacht prod.}{reviewed by patrick}
beliar are a new band set to take the german black metal scene to a whole new level with this release.beliar sound seems to be rooted in the more "primitive"old-school black metal style. but the band also has a certain element of "depressive"black metal which shines through on the track "the melancholic night of rising shadows"the music to this track has a darker atmosphere than some of the other tracks.thanks to naturmacht prod. for introducing me to another fine masterpiece of darkness.

black faith-jubilate diabolo cd {reviewed by grave!}
Keep Black Metal alive!

blaze of sorrow-L"ultimo respiro cd {naturmacht prod}{reviewed by patrick}
in just a short time since it's creation robert and naturmacht prod.have released some quality bands.well italy's blaze of sorrow can be added to this ever-growing list."L" ultimo respiro is 6 tracks of mid-paced black metal with some folk and acoustic guitar elements mixed into the sound to keep the listener interested.the vocals are a little more deeper than the average-black metal screamer but still maintain a dark demonic tone that fit well with peter's{all instruments,vocals} musical writing and approach.
this is a really good debut of blackend folk metal fans of this genre should defintly give blaze of sorrow a listen!!

denouncement pyre-world cremation cd {hells headbangers records}{reviewed by patrick}
finally the day has come! australia's denouncement pyre's "debut" full-length is released!! after several demo's and e.p's.the band unleahses it best and most impressive work to date.this band truly embodies all the great elements of old-school blackend death metal the raw power and straight forward approach of black metal,mixed with the heavier guitars and pounding drums of early death metal gods.denouncement pyre do not seem concerned with playing the style that is the flavor of the week. instead the band concentrates on what they know and what runs through their veins and that is true,pure old-school blackend death metal. all fans of old-school metal will not want to miss out on these australian madmen!

drunken bastards-horns of the wasted cd {hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
i like this band sound and approach to extreme music alot! the band mixes in elements from both early 80's punk rock and 80's speed/thrash,black metal to create a very original and chaotic sound.the bands starts off with a intro and then kicks it into full-gear with extremly fast,yet catchy guitars and some solo's mixed in and the drums are just as chaotic blasts but the drummer also shows alot of talent with some well-crafted drum parts and mixes in perfectly with the bands insanity.the vocals are mainly gruff growls but also some higer screams are used in a few parts. this should appeal to both the old-school metal-heads and the old-school punks as drunken bastards mix both styles together nicely.

inquisition-into the infernal regions of the ancient cult cd {hells headbangers rec.}{reviewed by patrick}
inquisition are a band you will totally fall in love with or you will hate with every fiber of your being i don't think their will be much inbetween.the music is in the vein of early/mid 90's european black metal and is not horrible but i have beard much better and the vocals are annoying and don't really fit the music. i personally would say pass on this band as h.h.r have alot more great bands worth checking out.

kozeljnik-deeper the fall cd {paragon records}{reviewed by patrick}
new york's paragon records have struck gold again! very few labels seem to be able to sign and release quality release one after the other but paragon has done it with the last 4-6 releases.this time they released serbia's kozeljnik.the duo have crafted a very dark journey of mid-paced black metal with some outbursts of insane,blasting drums and razor-sharp guitar chords.the band never really lets completly loose with the violent black metal side instead opting to use it more as a mood-breaker from the dark mid-paced songs.the vocals remind me alot of mid-era immortal,with the raspy,gruff vocal patterns.their is also some more deeper,clearly chanted vocal pattern used throughout the songs and is placed very well.the drums seem to stick out most of all for me. going from the hyper-speed intensity of early european black metal to a more controlled and mid-paced beat with some well executed solo's. kozeljnik is band that fans of old immortal,or quality black,dark metal can appreciate and listen to countless times.

maniac butcher-masakr cd {negative existence}{reviewed by patrick}
the deranged psycho's of the legendary maniac butcher return once again!! after a long 10 yrs. of silence with maskr. well does maskr hold up to past maniac butcher classics of the past? in a word yes! maskr is 6 songs of pure hate and agrression done only as these czech hate-mongers can do.raw,whirlwind and scratchy guitars flow over a pounding barrage of blasting drums.the vocals are pure evil shrieks and screams of black metal insanity and fit nicely with the bands ugly,raw sound. long time fans of maniac butcher should not be disapointed at all. and if you are new to this band and enjoy raw,ugly violent black metal done the old-school way this is a good way to introduce yourself to this legendary czech band.

interview with demether g, owner of grailight prod.and vocalist for the bands arcane grail,and skylord done by patrick

1.hello Demether, how is your weekend been going? please tell the readers a little about yourself.
Hi, Patrick!) Holidays pass off not bad. I have a rest at home, it is rare I have such happens - usually holidays few, always any business, for my own bands, a label, daily work (which connected with music directly too) - a free time few. About itself? Well, I’m the Russian metal-musician and, so to say, the figure) Singer in bands Arcane Grail and Skylord, I supervise over label Grailight Productions, I am engaged in journalistic activity for a site www.heavymusic.ru.

2.when did you first start listening to metal? who were some of the first bands you heard? who are some of your "current" favorite bands?
I have started to listen to metal in 16 years old. The first heard groups were Rammstein, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Helloween. First I listened only power metal and thrash metal, but have a year later I heard black and doom and have fallen in love with these styles much more. In any case, I have usual favorites: Therion, Cradle of Filth, Rhapsody, Kind Diamond, Bal-Sagoth, My Dying Bride, Cannibal Corpse.

3.what gave you the idea to create Grailight prod.? how did you come up with the name for the label? are you happy with how things are progressing so far?
I have a desire to create a label during last several years, despite of gradual and all greater decline of all of it all over the world and especially in Russia. Well here simply it would be desirable also at all. And in this year I have ripened, so to say. I have thought up the name almost instantly, it very much is pleasant to me - it simply superb, in my opinion. Magnificent Russian artist Pablo the Elephant has created a magnificent logotype. Master Alexander Mayhem Gluhov has created the most beautiful myspace-site for my label. All meshes is very class, in my opinion! Business goes on not bad on the one hand, though sales, certainly, are strongly insignificant and from the other hand all stands on pure enthusiasm and patronage of arts...

4.i know you already have released quite a few great band. can you please tell the readers a little about your releases?
For half a year I have released already 9 releases. The Ukrainian command Letargia, playing atmospheric doomish melodic death, Belarus dark-black metalheads Aeon Noctis. Muscovites Astel Oscora, playing most beautiful atmospheric black. Band Torsense, combining brutal death. melodic death, sympho black, brightest melodies, growling and female mezzo soprano. Innovators Ruthless Order, my oldest friends, playing a mixture a hard-rock and melodic death (yes!) with a touch of progressive-metal. Opening of year in the world, as I consider, Belarus pagan melodic death Drygva. Crude but very powerful and competent sympho black from Neron Kaisar. Very beautiful sympho-gothic metal from Ukrainians Mizantropia with unbelievable smart female vocal. Well and the last while - cult Moscow sympho blacksters Stigmatic Chorus with new 4-th album on which I and my vocalist from Arcane Grail Natalie have sung.

5.besides your "current" releases are u planning to release more bands/releases in the near future? if yes please tell us about them band/release names, release dates{if they are set} and any info you think the readers should know.
Yes, certainly, I plan to continue further activity of a label and to release out even more releases.
Precise plans while such: debut of Portuguese gothic-blacksters Darkside of Innocence, debut of my second band Skylord, debuts of Russian sympho-black metal Artania and Twilight.
Also I can preliminary tell, that releases Arcanorum Astrum, Atoll Nerat, Atra Mustum, Epitimia, Black October are possible - all is beautiful extreme metal from Russia. And it is not all… Quite probably, these releases will be issued all in this year!

6.are you currently looking to "sign" any more new bands? what do you look for when "signing" bands? also if any bands or labels are reading this what styles of metal do you trade for//carry in the Grailight distro?
I look for new groups for a label by myself, because I know sympho-blackish and an adjacent scene very well, and it is the extremely complex to surprise me with any unknown to me already band. Main my criteria - beautiful music, availability of an extreme vocal, desirable powerful qualitative record and beautiful professional registration. Popularity of band is not important at the moment of signing the contract. Anyway I prefer sympho-black on the first seat, melodic death with keys, pagan metal with elements of symphonies, sympho-doom.

7.what do you feel is the easiest and the hardest part about running a label? do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking of starting up a label?
Yes, undoubtedly I consulted with the senior counterparts on a common cause, considering, that I am personally familiar with all labels in Moscow. And about most easy way - to not despond, continue to work despite of everything, and to do all in the promised timeframes, precisely and responsibly, to not deceive the band and distributors.

8.besides running Grailight productions, you are also the vocalist for the bands "Arcane Grail" and "Skylord". When did you form/join these bands? What releases do the bands have available? for the readers who have never heard these two bands how would you describe their music?
Yes, first of all I’m the metal-vocalist in bands ARCANE GRAIL and SKYLORD. I have based ARCANE GRAIL in 2001 year, we play Symphonic Extreme Metal Art, with screaming, growling and a female soprano. We have released two albums "Mysteries of the Ancient Charnel" (2006) and "Arya Marga – The Ninefold Path to the Innocence" (2009) on Moscow label Musica Production. Also, the second album is available on ITunes. To listen to us it is possible here – www.myspace.com/arcanegrail
In SKYLORD I have come to sing in 2008 year, we now record our debut album. We play very high-speed and very beautiful sympho-black metal with elements of melodic-death and power metal. Wait!

9.when did you become interested in singing? who are some of your influences/favorite vocalist?
Beside of that I have learned in musical school in the childhood on class of baritone (instrument) and drums, when I started to listen to the metal I was liked very much in extreme singing and decided to sing, not play on some instrument. My favourite vocalists in metal are: Kind Diamond, Dani Filth, Fabio Lione, Alexi Laiho, Mille Petrozza, George Fisher.

10.do you do anything special to keep your throat/voice healthy? what other instruments do you play?
I have learned with jazz-vocal teacher, but, unfortunately, enough less. Undoubtedly, I have been rehearsing at home promptly; I don’t smoke and drink alcohol. Maybe, few beers sometimes:) I don’t play other instruments nowadays, on piano and drums a very little more.

11.you live in the mighty country of Russia. it seems like Russia has a fairly strong metal scene would you agree? what is your opinion of Russia's metal scene?
In Russia, in the last five years, the dawn of metal has begun at last. There were enough very decent studios owing to which now it is easy to record at the European level. But the deal is not only in sound. Really, there were many of the most worthy bands playing high-quality, interesting, and original metal music. It would be desirable to name the following bands:
Ambehr – Majestic ethnic melodic death with screaming and soprano
Blackthorn – All-female symphonic dramatic black metal, beautiful and haunting, with a unique soprano
Atoll Nerat – Unique epic sympho-black with an atmosphere of Indian Toltecs
Non Immemor Mei – Amazing original post-doom
Kartikeya – Brutal death on the basis of the Indian music
Dorgmooth – Superb melodic death
Astel Oscora – Beautiful and magic sympho-black with the atmosphere of Alice in Wonderland
Welicoruss – Magnificent epic sympho-folk-black
Tantal – They can easy outdo Arch Enemy and The Agonist
Little Dead Bertha – Fine sympho-black/melodic-death with screaming and a stunning soprano
Wine from Tears – Excellent doom-death
Id:Vision – Absolutely mad industrial-techno-black
Atra Mustum – Perhaps, one of the best representatives of gothic-sympho-blacks in the world
Diathra – Excellent gothic metal band
Scrambled Defuncts – Improbable sympho-brutal-death
Crystal Abyss – Mystical sympho-black
Solerrain – Children of Bodoms, playing better than Laiho and company a hundred times
Arcana Imperia – Very interesting avant-garde sympho-death
Ordalion – Original and very might Russian sympho-black
And, certainly, it is possible to list much of our most interesting pagan metal bands, which similarities in the world are not present: Arkona, Butterfly Temple, Nevid, Severnye Vrata, Smuta, Natural Spirit, Temnozor, Nebokray, Tverd, Svarga, Kroda, Alkonost and many others.

12.who are some of your all-time favorite Russian bands? are their any new bands the readers should watch out for?
My favourite surely are: Arkona, Ambehr, Blackthorn, Abstract Spirit, Butterfly Temple, Temnozor, Nokturnal Mortum, Ea, Welicoruss, Stigmatic Chorus. Many…:)

13.besides bands are their any good/honest labels or zines in Russia you would recommend? are there a lot of clubs/places for metal bands to play live?
Good labels surely are: More Hate Productions, mighty Solitude Productions (benefactors of doom metal), Coyote Records and Soulflesh Collector (hellish pits with mead for brutal death metal collectives), Stygian Crypt. Its all. The best our zine is Dark City. About clubs better to gig in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, and Ekaterinburg. Best clubs of Moscow are Tochka, X.O., Plan B. We haven’t much clubs, unfortunately. We have much very good bands, labels, studios, but also we have many problems with concert stages, promoters and the general – people in metal-shops and on gigs…

14.in your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the metal underground? and what does the term metal underground mean to you?
The best thing I think is the metal unites the people, gives them the power, ideas, will to live and to create. The metal is good!:) The worst are the lack of money, prohibitions in some countries, incomprehension of society, and sometimes disrespect between bands and listeners, foolish enmity between genres. I’m really in metal underground, and I think that all bands, except maybe only Metallica and Iron Maiden, in underground of world music – and, hm, I am more free and honest and my brothers and sisters at arms of metal too. We’re really the soul of this world, I’m proud of it!

15.well, my friend we have reached the end of the interview. thank you for taking the time to fill this out. good luck with your label and bands and looking forward to see what you release next. do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thank you very much for this interesting interview. And my words for all are: love the relatives, hate the enemies, do not cave in under the modern world, be free, do not allow anybody to manipulate your consciousness, and, certainly, listen to good music – metal, the most strong and honest music in this sublunar world!
